Cornelius Transportation Plan

The vision statement in the Town of Cornelius' strategic plan states that the transportation/mobility initiative includes congestion management, facilitating mobility throughout Cornelius and the region, protection of residential neighborhoods from invasive traffic impacts, creation of sidewalks and bike lanes, connectivity between neighborhoods, and alternative modes of transportation.

With this vision in mind, the Town developed the Cornelius Centennial Transportation Plan - a multimodal plan for the future.  The plan was produced in conjunction with local staff, an appointed transportation committee, and feedback from the general public.  The plan addressed public safety and mobility, as well as supporting economic development and quality of life initiatives.

In creating the plan it was necessary to consider projects already in progress by other towns.

The Corridor Profiles for major arteries such as Jetton Road, Catawba Avenue, West Catawba Avenue, Westmoreland Road and Washam Potts Road are illustrative cross sections that include information on pavement width, number of lanes, median treatment, turn lanes, etc.
